A major new label, Psychiatric Records, is releasing their second recording of high-powered and creative fusion. While Vol. 1 focused on Pete Drungle's compositions and the guitar playing of Andy Timmons, Vol. 2 has veteran guitarist Frank Gambale joining Celestial Latitude for a set of stirring music. Gambale, who became famous for his work with Chick Corea's Elektric Band and his own solo albums, is the lead voice, sharing the solo space with keyboardist Drungle and flying over dense and exhilarating ensembles.

Gambale and Drungle are joined by Kirwan Brown, Al MacDowell, or Percy Jones on bass, the forceful drumming of Steve Haas, and occasionally Pete Gallio or Jay Rodriguez on saxophones and rhythm guitarist Samuel Hällkvist.

The nine performances on The Haas Company, Vol. 2 mix together the power of rock with adventurous jazz improvisations, raging solos with complex yet catchy rhythm patterns. This is no-holds-barred music that features plenty of colorful interplay between Gambale's guitar and Drungle's keyboards while the rhythm section contributes relentless grooves and polyrhythms.

Starting with "Mekat Rock, " which has infectious question and answer lines played by Gambale's rockish guitar over a keyboard pattern, the music never lets up. "Celestial Latitude" has its quieter sections, "Ariel" is melodic at times, and Gambale's Spanish guitar intro on "Ultra Flamingo" is thoughtful but those are only temporary departures from the electronic ensembles and fiery solos. Other selections include "Bug Flights, " "Drawn & Quartered, " "For Allan, " "Memories Of The Future, " and "Liquid Crystal, " each of which have their memorable moments while being both consistently explosive and unpredictable.

Steve Haas has always loved progressive rock and fusion and he put together Psychiatric Records to document his passionate excursions with the Haas Company. Among those who he has collaborated with in recent times are violinist Jerry Goodman (of the Mahavishnu Orchestra), Sean Lennon, and John.

Frank Gambale was a member of Chick Corea's Elektric Band during 1987–93 and participated in many later reunions. He worked with Steve Smith's Vital Information for 12 years and has led at least 16 albums of his own. Gambale has been one of the major fusion/jazz guitarists for over 35 years.

As is obvious throughout The Haas Company, Vol. 2, Frank Gambale is at the peak of his powers, creating brilliant solos that inspire Steve Haas' group to play at its most inventive. The result is fusion of the highest order.
