ROSE MALLETT NEW CD “DREAMS REALIZED” AND UPCOMING LIVE APPEARANCES

Throughout her career, Rose Mallett has always displayed a warm voice, a deep understanding of the lyrics she interprets, and an abundant amount of soulful feeling.

On her newest recording, Dreams Realized, the singer is joined by some of Southern California's finest musicians including Robert Kyle on tenor and flute, trumpeter Nolan Shaheed, pianists Jamison Trotter and Matt Politano, violinist Yvette Deveraux, bassist Trey Henry, drummers Mike Shapiro and Quentin Dennard, and percussionist Munyungo Jackson plus other top-notch players.

On Dreams Realized, Ms. Mallett's singing, tune selection, band personnel, and overall album concept are all superb. She performs a diverse program filled with rewarding highpoints. She is quite assertive on the opening "Ain't Nobody" which finds her engaging in close interplay with Kyle on tenor. She excels over an R&Bish groove during "Feelin' Good" which climaxes with an endless note from the singer and is sensitive on "My Funny Valentine" which has atmospheric and electronic backing by Wayne Boyer. Her version of Stevie Wonder's "Creepin'" becomes a swinging waltz with Kyle on flute. Yvette Devereaux's violin is prominent on a surprisingly hard-swinging version of "Send In The Clowns."

Rose Mallett is quite sassy during a rather riotous rendition of Oscar Brown Jr.'s "The Snake, " while the warm Michel Legrand ballad "The Way He Makes Me Feel" serves as an effective contrast. The other selections include the singer's original "Building Dreams, " her tender singing on "It's Impossible, " a lowdown blues "Rock Me Baby, " and the dramatic closer "If I Never Sing Another Song."

The consistent excellence and diversity of Dreams Realized is a reflection of Rose Mallett's life and career. Born in Chicago and growing up in Los Angeles, she listened to a wide variety of music. At 16 she formed an R&B vocal group with three friends that was discovered by the famous duo Sam & Dave and resulted in being offered a recording contract with Capitol. Since that time she has sung extensively at nightclubs, acted in musical theatre productions, performed in Las Vegas with Ben Vereen and Susan Anton, contributed musical voice overs in several movies, and appeared as herself in the film Guinevere. Her previous CDs include Building Dreams and Send In The Clowns; she paid tribute to Sarah Vaughan in Songs of Sarah, a one-woman theatrical production that won three awards by the Desert Theater League. In addition, she was declared a "Living Jazz Legend" by the Living Jazz Legend Foundation at Los Angeles' City Hall.

Rose Mallett's Dreams Realized features the very appealing singer in prime form, summing up her life's experiences with memorable performances.
