Pat Philips Presents CRAIG DAVIS TRIO @ BIRDLAND APRIL 11TH Special Guest DARMON MEADER

Pittsburgh pianist Craig Davis
pays tribute to fellow Steel City native and bebop pioneer
Michael "Dodo" Marmarosa
CRAIG DAVIS, along with his Trio, Ian Ashby on Bass, and Chris Latona on Drums, is on a mission to raise Michael "Dodo" Mamarosa's profile in the Jazz consciousness. Marmaros, who worked with major Swing-era bandleaders such as Tommy Dorsey, Gene Krupa, and Artie Shaw, and who recorded with Lester Young, faded from the scene as quickly as he arrive.

As a fellow native Pittsburgher, Davis has spent most of his career as an active and in-demand member of the Steel City jazz scene and recognized the parallels to his own approach to the piano as in Marmarosa's. Both musicians blend classical influences with a taste for progressive jazz and a spirited lyricism.

To celebrate his new album, Tone Paintings: The Music of Dodo Marmarosa (MCG Jazz), Davis is making his Birdland debut on Thursday, April 11, 8:30pm. The Craig Davis Trio will offer gorgeous new interpretations of classic Marmarosa tunes as well as music they performed for the World Premier "Jazz Icons" ballet presented by The Washington Ballet at the Kennedy Center in February 2024.

Arranger, composer, vocalist and saxophonist, Darmon Meader, joins the Craig Davis Trio as their special guest for the performance at Birdland. Meader, a founding member of the acclaimed group New York Voices also has a new solo project out entitled, Losing My Mind.

For more information and reservations for this creative, warm and interesting performance at Birdland Theater, Thursday, April 11, visit https://www.birdlandjazz.com/ or call, 212-581-3080. Doors open at 7:00pm, show at 8:30pm.
