| March 6 Listening Party for David Leon’s Bird’s Eye on Pyroclastic Join Miami-born, New York-based saxophonist/composer David Leon for a listening party at 7:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday, March 6 to preview his striking new album Bird's Eye. Come along and listen to the music with the artist and chat about the making of the album, which will be released on March 8 via Pyroclastic Records. Curious about his Cuban heritage, Leon began studying with master percussionist Manley "Piri" López, the youngest member of a legendary family of rumberos. At around the same time, he founded the pathfinding new trio featured on this album. Gayagum player DoYeon Kim and drummer/percussionist Lesley Mok weave influences from Afro-Cuban and Korean traditional music into innovative new forms. Pyroclastic founder Kris Davis, who has served as a mentor for Leon, says of his music: "David Leon is the real deal: adventurous, fearless, highly skilled, and an artist who values and seeks collaboration with other adventurous artists. I'm thrilled to be releasing his new album on Pyroclastic. You will be hearing his name often in the years to come!" write your comments about the article :: © 2024 Jazz News :: home page |
