| Kickstarter - Ines Velasco's Big Band Album "A Flash of Cobalt Blue" My name is Ines Velasco, I am a Mexican born, Brooklyn based drummer, arranger and composer. For the last few years, I have had the opportunity to collaborate as an arranger, orchestrator and copyist for artists like Avenged Sevenfold, Snarky Puppy, NY Philharmonic String Quartet featuring Juana Luna, José Mercé, Alina Engirbayan and many others. I released my first big band EP titled 'Three Stories' in December of 2022, which was featured in JAZZIZ Magazine Summer Edition's 'Big Sounds'. I am working on recording my first full length big band album as a leader. I will be recording this project at the beginning of May of 2024 in Brooklyn, NY, with a 17-piece band of incredible musicians. THE INSPIRATION The inspiration behind this project is the poetry of the book 'Descripción de un brillo azul cobalto' (Description of a flash of cobalt blue), by award winning Mexican poet and project collaborator Jorge Esquinca. I had the great fortune of attending the live reading of the book in 2010, which struck me deeply. Back in 2014, Jorge and I had a conversation about the book, and he kindly gave me permission to use his poetry however I saw fit. Since then, we have become friends, and for the past few years, I have been writing music to his words, and now finally I'm getting ready to record this as my first full length album. WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP The goal I have set for this campaign will cover most of the musician costs for their rehearsal and studio time, however, other costs that will need to be covered include: -Producer costs -Rehearsal / performance venue costs -Mixing costs -Mastering costs -Album art costs -CD manufacturing & shipping costs -PR costs, among others THE BAND & PRODUCER I have an amazing lineup of New York musicians that will record this album with me. Saxophones: M. Alex Ramírez, Gideon Forbes, John Lowery, Nathan See, Kenny Pexton Trumpets: Bobby Spellman, Tony Glausi, Joey Kendrick Trombones: Nick Grinder, Sam Blakeslee, Greg DeAngelis, Becca Patterson Piano: Andrew Boudreau Bass: Eduardo Belo Guitar: Jacob Aviner Drums: JK Kim In addition, I'm very excited to have composer and arranger Nicholas Urie as a producer on this project.
