(Queens, NY; February 2024) Kupferberg Center for the Arts at Queens College is thrilled to announce an electrifying jazz performance by the Danilo Pérez Trio featuring John Patitucci and Adam Cruz. The concert will take place on Friday, March 8, at 8:00 pm at LeFrak Concert Hall.

Danilo Pérez, three-time Grammy Award-Winner and eight-time Grammy Nominated Panamanian pianist and composer has been hailed as one of the most innovative voices in contemporary music for over three decades. His global jazz style seamlessly blends jazz with Panamanian roots, Latin American folk music, West African rhythms, and European impressionism, creating a transcendent musical experience that unites people across borders.

"At Kupferberg Center, we are going to premiere new music, full of adventure, joy, and global jazz sounds, " said Pérez.

Pérez will be joined by the legendary four-time Grammy Award-Winner and twenty-time Grammy nominated bassist and composer, John Patitucci. Both Pérez and Patitucci were integral members of Wayne Shorter's legendary quartet, known for its groundbreaking and unpredictable music.

Completing the trio is the impactful drummer Adam Cruz, whose unique musical background and deep rhythmic knowledge infuse the group's sound with power and complexity. Together, these three exceptional musicians promise an unforgettable evening of jazz exploration and innovation.

Danilo Pérez:
As a solo artist and as a collaborator with jazz giants from Dizzy Gillespie to Wayne Shorter, for over three decades Grammy-Award Winning Panamanian Pianist-Composer Danilo Perez has been lauded as one of the most creative forces in contemporary music. With Jazz as the anchoring foundation, Perez's Global Jazz music is a blend of Panamanian roots, Latin American folk music, West African rhythms, European impressionism – promoting music as a borderless and multidimensional bridge between all people. Since 1993 Pérez has released twelve albums which have earned him critical acclaim, and numerous accolades around the world. He is a recipient of the United States Fellowship 2018, and the 2009 Smithsonian Legacy Award. For nearly two decades, Pérez has been part of the Wayne Shorter Quartet, alongside bassist John Patitucci and drummer Brian Blade. This latest iteration from Shorter has been known as a unique and predominant force in improvisational music both at their historic live performances and on several recordings. In 2018 Blue Note records released the highly anticipated EMANON from the Wayne Shorter Quartet which won a Grammy in the category of Best Jazz Instrumental album in 2019.

John Patitucci:
John is a towering figure in jazz, boasting over 30 years of groundbreaking contributions to the genre. As a four-time Grammy award winner and multiple nominee, his influence extends far beyond his accolades. Collaborating with legends like Dizzy Gillespie, Herbie Hancock, and Chick Corea, he's left an indelible mark on the jazz landscape. Yet, his versatility shines through his work with pop icons like Alicia Keys and Paul Simon. With sixteen solo albums to his name, John's prowess as a composer is unmatched. His performances as a soloist with esteemed orchestras worldwide, from the London Symphony to the Swedish Chamber Orchestra, underscore his virtuosity. A dedicated educator, John's impact spans continents, with instructional materials and masterclasses enriching the next generation of musicians. Formerly Artistic Director of The Bass Collective and a Professor at The City College of New York, he now serves as a Visiting Scholar at Berklee College of Music's Global Jazz Institute.

Adam Cruz:
Adam Cruz, a New York-born drummer, composer, and educator, has made significant contributions to the global jazz scene. Leading his own ensemble and playing a crucial role in Danilo Perez's trio, he collaborates with luminaries like Tom Harrell and Chris Potter. Currently teaching at CCNY and the Berklee Global Jazz Institute, Adam's rhythmic mastery transcends easy categorization, drawing from his mixed ethnic background and deep knowledge of Latin American rhythms. Emerging professionally in the 1990s, he toured with Chick Corea and recorded with the Charles Mingus Big Band. His association with Danilo Perez since 2000 has been pivotal. Mentored by esteemed musicians like Joe Chambers and Kenny Washington, Adam's debut album, "Milestone, " released in 2011, received critical acclaim for its blend of Latin and post-bop influences. Throughout his career, he's collaborated with a diverse array of artists, including McCoy Tyner and Pharaoh Sanders. Adam remains a sought-after performer and educator, sharing his talent and expertise worldwide.
