New Haven Improvisers Collective at Firehouse12 on 12/2/17

The New Haven Improvisers Collective returns to the world-renowned performance space, recording studio, New Haven treasure, and landmark in Creative music, Firehouse12.

NHIC presents the Light Upon Blight Ensemble and Roundhouse Quartet on Saturday December 9, 2023, starting at 8:30pm

The Light Upon Blight Ensemble Is:
Richard Brown: Alto Sax; Pete Brunelli: Bass; Jeff Cedrone: Guitar
Bob Gorry: Guitar; Tom Hogan: Drums; Peter Riccio: Drums;

The Light Upon Blight Ensemble presents "Century" a new composition by Jeff Cedrone and Bob Gorry exploring historical influences and heavy melodic structures woven with collective improvisations. Double drums, heavy grooves, singular statements. The ensemble has been playing in various configurations and many different venues for the better part of a decade, exploring film scores, harmolodics and more. Their well received CD Streamline Moderne was recorded at Firehouse12.

Roundhouse Quartet Is:
Diane Buettner: Bass Clarinet / Flute; Bob Gorry: Guitar;
Michael Paolucci: Drums; Conor Perreault: Electronics

Roundhouse Trio was a highlight of the MULTIPLEX music series curated by Joe Morris and Bob Gorry that ran for 3 seasons before being cut short by a global pandemic. Three fearless voices coming from different directions with a common purpose. It needs to be experienced. The trio resurfaced last year with a blistering live show and has added a fourth fearless and very special voice for this performance. Diane Buettner played with the likes of Mario Pavone, Joe Fonda, and the creative improvisors orchestra in the 80s and has returned to public performance focused primarily on Bass clarinet. We are lucky to have this great voice back.

The New Haven Improvisers Collective is in its nineteenth year and remains one of the focal points of a thriving improvised and experimental music scene here in New Haven, CT. The Collective now numbers more than 50 members and has been featured in the New York Times along with several local publications and radio outlets. It has been a great year for live creative music in New Haven and throughout with the Instantiation series led by Joe Morris, the FIM series led by Larocca/Duval/Rovinsky, Nick DiMaria's Dim Light series and of course the Jazz series at Firehouse 12. NHIC celebrates this wonderful year with their annual showcase. NHIC also continues to hold free monthly workshops, sponsors performances of various combinations of NHIC members and hosts visiting jazz and new music ensembles.
It's a great time to be playing and listening to this music in New Haven, truly another golden age.
