John Papa Gros performs at The Hamilton Live (New Orleans Funk, Soul, R&B)

On Saturday July 29, New Orleans musical legend John "Papa" Gros performs at The Hamilton Live in Washington D.C. Opening set featuring Jonathan Sloane Trio. After-party featuring Sol Roots Trio.

This power packed New Orleans musical event will also be a special birthday celebration.

About the performing artists:

"John 'Papa' Gros is a bedrock New Orleans artist, a keyboardist, singer and songwriter who draws on funk, rhythm & blues and Americana songcraft; he also knows his way around the Mardi Gras music repertoire about as well as anyone" – The New Orleans Advocate

John Papa Gros backed up some of the biggest names in the Crescent City, such as Meters bassist George Porter Jr. and guitarist Snooks Eaglin. Studying under mentors decades his senior, Gros absorbed a lifetime of lessons in only a few years and quickly became part of the direct lineage of New Orleans music.

Jonathan Sloane is a remarkable and incredibly versatile guitarist...with an impressive range of skill. His sound brings together blues, Americana, soul and rock into a unique and captivating experience. Jonathan has shared stages with Billy Strings, Anders Osborne, Daryl Davis, George Porter Jr., Ivan Neville, Jackie Green, Tab Benoit, Samantha Fish, and more.

There will also be a free admission after-party upstairs happening in The Loft featuring Sol Roots trio.

The Sol Roots band performs a mix of raw funk, deep blues, energetic rock, greasy soul, and hypnotic rhythms. Sol is a fiery guitarist and soulful singer who has toured the world with many musical legends.

"Sol Roots has a wealth of original music in rootsy styles and a killer approach to guitar playing. No wonder, since he spent years working with Music Maker Foundation backing up the likes of Guitar Gabriel, Cool John Ferguson, Captain Luke, Beverly 'Guitar' Watkins, Albert White, Robert Lee Coleman, and many more." - Roanoke Times.
