| Vocalist Vanessa Thomas Debut Release "Life Is Like A Song" - Available Now! Artist Statement "I have always desperately needed music. And Music was there to heal the unspeakable trauma I experienced as a toddler, until my adoption as a young child. Music was there to give me the acceptance I craved in the small rural farming community I grew up in—where no faces looked like mine at all. Music remained there inside of me somewhere as an inexplicable tiny spark after I became an adult. Music was there as that tiny spark ignited into a flame of passion, when I thought I had lost everything good about life. Suddenly, I knew that I didn't simply love or need music, but music was my everything...my reason. When I sing the great jazz standards of those heroic black folk who have gone before me, I am deeply and passionately connected to them. Those beautiful souls performed these very songs back then, at a time when they must have needed music as much as I do now. Thank you to those who instinctively and lovingly gave me the music I needed, exactly when and how I needed it." - Vanessa Thomas Musicians: Vanessa Thomas, vocals Roger Wilder, piano Eric Hitt, bass John Kizilarmut, drums Matt Otto, tenor saxophone (tracks 1, 2, 3, 8, 10 & 12) Clint Ashlock, trumpet (track 3) Recorded August 24 & 26, 2022 at the Lied Center of Kansas Song Listing: 1.
