| DAVE STRYKER ORGAN TRIO WITH SPECIAL GUEST BOB MINTZER Birdland Jazz Club July 4-5-6-7-8 DAVE STRYKER Whether you've heard guitarist Dave Stryker fronting his own group (with 35 CD's as a leader to date), or as a featured sideman with, Stanley Turrentine and Jack McDuff, you know why Gary Giddins in the Village Voice called him "one of the most distinctive guitarists to come along in recent years." Prime is Dave's most recent recording and features his working trio of Jared Gold on organ and McClenty Hunter on drums. The trio recently opened up for Steely Dan's 2002 summer tour. SPECIAL GUEST BOB MINTZER Bob Mintzer is a saxophonist/arranger/educator who resides in Los Angeles. He currently holds the Barbara and Buzz McCoy endowed chair at the USC Thornton School of Music. Bob is a 30 year member as saxophonist with the Yellowjackets. He is also the chief conductor of the WDR Big Band in Cologne Germany. Bob has written over 500 big band arrangements, several jazz study books, orchestral and chamber works. He has played on over 1000 recordings and has performed with Tito Puente, Buddy Rich, Thad Jones Mel Lewis Big Band, Eddie Palmieri, Jaco Pastorius, Mike Manieri, Randy Brecker, and the New York Philharmonic. JARED GOLD Organist Jared Gold's emergence as one of the New York area's most in-demand musicians comes from years of dedication and respect to his instrument. With such notable influ-ences as Larry Young, Jack McDuff, and Don Patterson to draw upon as a foundation, the emphasis on finding his own voice has now clearly taken precedence and required Gold to construct his own unique philosophy based on extending harmony and solidifying the groove. McClenty Hunter Drummer, Educator, Composer, Arranger. McClenty is a Grammy-nominated drummer who has worked with jazz icons such as Lou Donaldson, Cedar Walton, Jimmy Heath, Kenny Garrett, Buster Williams and Curtis Fuller, among others. write your comments about the article :: © 2023 Jazz News :: home page |
