Canadian musician Denielle Bassels releases second studio album "Little Bit A' Love" [Independant]

Denielle Bassels, the critically acclaimed singer-songwriter, is set to release her highly anticipated 2nd studio album, "Little Bit a' Love, " in June 2023. Following the success of her celebrated album, "What About Wool Wishbags, " in 2017, Bassels captivates listeners once again with a collection of deeply personal and introspective songs that explore themes of loss, depression, and the pursuit of purpose, all infused with the unwavering spirit of love.

"Little Bit a' Love" takes listeners on a poignant metamorphosis that ultimately triumphs over adversity. With her signature blend of pop, jazz, and blues, Bassels skillfully weaves together an exquisite musical tapestry, demonstrating that profound love can thrive even in the face of the toughest circumstances.

The album opens with the title track, "Little Bit a' Love, " transporting listeners to a vibrant street party in New Orleans. The catchy folk swing original invites passersby to join in with makeshift shakers, cajón, and congas, played by Chendy Leon (Sultans Of String), and accompanied by the melodic acoustic guitar of Thom McKay (Nightcrawlers). McKay, a platinum-awarded producer, adds his expertise and musical finesse to the album, further enhancing the resilience and determination found in every note.

Denielle Bassels drew inspiration from the legendary Nina Simone, aiming to create an album that defies genre boundaries and addresses deeply impactful themes capable of effecting change. She wanted the music to be accessible, from a single voice on the streets of Paris to a full orchestra at Carnegie Hall, which led her to dive deeper into the songwriting process.

"Little Bit a' Love" presents a new and exciting soundscape for this ever-curious artist. While her previous album featured intricate arrangements and lush soundscapes, Bassels courageously ventures beyond her comfort zone in both vocals and orchestration. Collaborating closely with platinum-awarded co-producer Thom McKay (Joydrop, SATE), Bassels took a more prominent role in production, resulting in ten thoughtfully crafted songs that exude emotional depth and undeniable soul. The album features a stellar lineup of talented musicians, including Grammy-nominated Drew Jurecka (Jill Barber, Dua Lipa), who also produced the sixth track, "Gone, " as well as Russ Boswell (Holly Cole) and familiar faces from "What About Wool Wishbags" such as Scott Hunter, Andrew Scott, Andy Mac, and Jacob Gorzhaltsan. Joining the ensemble is guitarist Julien Bradley Combs, a new addition to Bassels' band.

Recording "Little Bit a' Love" during the challenging times of the pandemic presented unique obstacles for Denielle Bassels. Many of the album's sessions were conducted remotely, with producer Thom McKay skillfully bringing the pieces together at Exeter Sound Studios in Toronto. This novel approach pushed Bassels to surpass her own perceived limitations, resulting in a deeper exploration of arrangement and production. Exploring new instruments like the piano, ukulele, and guitar, Bassels discovered an incredible producing partner and friend in Thom McKay, making the album an enjoyable and transformative musical experience.

With a delicate balance of tenderness and strength, Denielle Bassels embarks on a distinct departure from her previous work while maintaining a deep connection to her listeners. Long-time fans will revel in tracks such as "Tangled Thread" and "Pooter And Significo, " reminiscent of swing dancing in the sweltering heat of New Orleans summers. Meanwhile, songs like "Gone" and "Big Bad Wolf" invite listeners to be confidantes amidst the desolation of a cold Canadian night, providing a glimpse into Bassels' world.

"Little Bit a' Love" showcases Denielle Bassels' remarkable evolution as an artist, unveiling a distinctive album that manages to sound classic yet strikingly original.
