Pat Petrillo Big Rhythm Band - "The Power Station Sessions" - Cover of Modern Drummer

Pat Petrillo has long been recognized as one of the most versatile and prolific drummers on the scene. He has worked with a wide array of artists from diverse genres, including Patti LaBelle, Gloria Gaynor, Chieli Minucci, and Ed Hamilton as well as numerous Broadway shows, from A Chorus Line to Newsies to the national tour of Dreamgirls. With the success of his new record, The Power Station Sessions, Modern Drummer magazine has featured Pat on their February cover, with an extensive interview. The amazing new album by the PAT PETRILLO BIG RHYTHM BAND, features special guests Nile Rodgers, Oz Noy, John Popper, Felicia Collins, Lenny Pickett and Glen Burtnik. On this outing, the band produces a heavy dose of nine groove-packed tracks with a New York-centric vibe. From R&B and Funk, to Soul, New Orleans, Rock, and Blues, it's all on this record. It is receiving airplay globally cross platform from Smooth Jazz, to Jam Band, and NACC stations.

As keeper of the groove, Pat draws on the full range of those experiences on the eclectic but always propulsive The Power Station Sessions. Named after the famed studio where it was recorded, Petrillo's visceral, instinctive, and deep-rooted style of drumming is infectious on this album. Covers from Billy Joels "Big Man on Mulberry Street", and Steely Dan's "Black Cow" stand out, as do originals "48th Street", "Asbury Daze", and the fusion inspired "Global Warming". It also features an all-star collection of guest artists who bring their own unique authenticity to the proceedings: guitarists Nile Rodgers (Chic), Felicia Collins (Late Show with David Letterman) and Oz Noy; Blues Traveler frontman John Popper; saxophonist and Saturday Night Live bandleader Lenny Pickett; and famed singer-songwriter Glen Burtnik. The band also features versatile keyboardist David Cook, (Taylor Swift), and bassist Scott Ambush (Spyro Gyra).

"a lot of fun, a lot of variety, this is a feel good record...that would seemingly be enjoyed by the masses, but at the same time, no doubt, a clinic for drummers. 4 Stars."
