| AWARD-WINNING KATHERINE FARNHAM SHARES HER LOVE PHILOSOPHY Grammy U Mentor, Billboard-charting, 11-Time Global Music Award Winner and internationally acclaimed singer, songwriter, pianist Katherine Farnham has released a new album "Love Philosophy". The award-winning record features originals and vocal standards in English, Spanish and Portuguese. Guest Artists include Blues Hall of Fame and Grammy Winning trumpeter Darrell Leonard, Grammy Nominated saxophonist Mindi Abair and Grammy Nominated guitarist Denny Jiosa. The winner of twenty-six awards and nine nominations, Katherine is a woman of character who has inspired fans, critics, students and legends. She is an artist with an amazing heritage, an exciting present and a future as bright as the stars. Combining originals like the smooth title track "Love Philosophy", and "The World Is My Home", her haunting version of "Nature Boy (feat Darrell Leonard)" the tear-jerking "People (feat Mindi Abair)" speaking of universal, spiritual love, with standards "Besame Mucho (feat Denny Jiosa)", Billie Holiday's "Good Morning Heartache", and a tender, soulful version of Percy Mayfield's classic "Please Send Me Someone To Love" with more romantic moods, Farnham created an album with many facets. This offering showcases her undeniable skills as a singer/songwriter/pianist as well as a world-class interpreter. "The message behind the title track is to love humanity, to seek to serve others from all backgrounds, and to share positive vibes. It's also to expand awareness of the different kinds of love – spiritual, friendship, artistic, parental, and of course romantic. Opening to these possibilities encourages growth and unites people around the world." Katherine has also recorded with legendary Grammy winner Kirk Whalum, Latin Grammy Winner Nestor Torres, and beloved, award-winning Brazilian artist Guinga. In recognition of her considerable contributions to the genre, her groundbreaking CD "Vintage" was added to the prestigious jazz archives at the Mediatheque Musicale de Paris, France. The Los Angeles Music Awards voted the third-generation musician the "Best Female Singer/Songwriter" in their entire twenty-five year history. AXS calls her "...an open, fearless artist." Emmy Nominee, Celebrity Radio Host Phillip Silverstone raved, "absolutely brilliant. 'People' is a triumph." "Love Philosophy" won eight Global Music Awards, one for the album and others for seven singles including "Jazz/ Emerging Artist", "Jazz/Blues Song" as well as an award for "Songwriter" for her original ballad "Night of Romance". "I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to work with these incredible Guest Artists. Mindi and I recorded two tracks on International Women's Day in Los Angeles. I don't think either one of us knew what day it was until the middle of the session." "It was also a pleasant surprise that the vintage Steinway grand piano I tracked on turned out to be jazz legend Oscar Peterson's former piano. I stared at it sitting in the corner for quite some time for reasons I couldn't explain. I had been researching my artistic and pedagogical legacy and was shocked to find it led directly back over a century to Franz Liszt, Carl Czerny and Beethoven. After the record was completed I also researched Peterson's pedagogical line and realized that it also led back to Liszt. This was an amazing realization and made the process of recording this album very special." With this kind of background, it is no surprise that Farnham recorded "Love Philosophy" on not one, but three Steinway grand pianos. "I had a fantastic time recording this record. There were many wonderful memories I will never forget." Farnham has had to overcome tremendous adversity to bring her music to the world. But in so doing, it has fueled a passion to create music that touches people in a universal way. From teaching inner city kids in Compton and Los Angeles, to providing transitional housing for the homeless, rescuing pets, supporting veterans and organizing benefit concerts in Los Angeles and Miami supporting music education and ethnic unity, Katherine is a woman who consistently goes the extra mile. She has supported charities including The Salvation Army, ASPCA, Doctors Without Borders and many others. write your comments about the article :: © 2022 Jazz News :: home page |
