The Baylor Project Earns Fifth and Sixth GRAMMY® Nominations with The Evening : Live at APPARATUS

The Evening : Live at APPARATUS, the third full-length album by The Baylor Project has received two GRAMMY  nominations. This critically-acclaimed live recording is up for Best Jazz Vocal Album, while drummer Marcus Baylor's performance on "Call Of The Drum" is nominated for Best Improvised Jazz Solo. This tallies six total GRAMMY nominations for the renowned duo and marks their third nomination in the Jazz Vocal category. The 65th annual GRAMMY Awards will take place on February 5, 2023 in Los Angeles.

The Baylor Project features vocalist Jean Baylor and drummer Marcus Baylor,  who present an immersive, soul-stirring set on The Evening : Live at APPARATUS, recorded in front of an engaged live audience at APPARATUS, an interdisciplinary design studio in New York City. For three magical nights, the indomitable couple and their exceptional band graced the stage at MUMS, an ephemeral jazz club created within APPARATUS' gallery. The Evening : Live at APPARATUS displays the transformative power of performance, in a presentation of both style and substance.

"It's almost impossible to express our level of sheer excitement and gratitude to have received two GRAMMY  nominations for our first live album,  The Evening : Live at APPARATUS! We hadn't even planned on releasing a project this year, so this is truly an unexpected blessing and honor! We're looking forward to celebrating in 2023, " said The Baylor Project in a statement.

The Baylor Project's outstanding live performances have brought audiences to their feet all over the world. Whether performing at a world-class festival for thousands of concert goers, or for a small attentive audience in a tucked-away club, these married musical partners have been known to put on a show that is both uplifting and transcendent.

As the children of pastors, Marcus and Jean saw the sublime, restorative power of music first-hand and this rich life experience comes through in their magnificent live shows, where audience members often leave feeling like family. This feeling is ever present on "Call Of The Drum", where Marcus' featured drum solo chronicles his vast musical journey from playing in his father's church in St. Louis to his experiences playing with jazz icons Yellowjackets and Kenny Garrett.

The Baylor Project is made up of two music industry veterans. Before forming The Baylor Project in 2013, Jean Baylor burst onto the scene in the mid-1990's as part of the groundbreaking R&B duo Zhané. Marcus Baylor first rose to prominence in the early 2000's as the drummer for the world-renowned, GRAMMY Award winning fusion group Yellowjackets. Both Marcus and Jean have performed and toured with various jazz legends, ranging from Kenny Garrett and John Scofield to Marcus Miller and Harold Mabern. Their debut album,  The Journey,  was nominated for two GRAMMY Awards in 2018, while their subsequent pandemic-era single "Sit On Down" was nominated the following year. Last year, their sophomore album Generations brought upon their fourth nomination, and won the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Vocal Jazz Album.

The Baylor Project is proud to be nominated alongside Carmen Lundy, Cécile McLorin Salvant, The Manhattan Transfer & The WDR Funkhausorchester and Samara Joy in the Jazz Vocal category. Marcus' solo will go up against Ambrose Akinmusire, Gerald Albright, John Beasley, Melissa Aldana and Wayne Shorter & Leo Genovese.
