Rebeccca Coupe Franks Exciting New Release 'Planets' Release November 10th!

Planets (RCF Records) is a straight-ahead instrumental jazz quartet album with the vibe of the early '60s jazz scene. Composer Rebecca Coupe Franks leads the quartet on trumpet, with Luis Perdomo on piano, Larry Grenadier on bass, and Johnathan Blake on drums. The album was recorded on May 10 and 11th, 2022 at Clubhouse Recording in Rhinebeck NY. Release date is November 10th.

Rebecca Coupe Franks has woven her playful take on our solar system into the compositions and arrangements with expressively catchy melodies and deep orbital grooves, taking us on an inner and outer harmonic journey. And with it, Franks has created a completely original and one-of-a-kind jazz album.

She says, "I really thought about our life here, amidst the Milky Way, and tried to fold in and incorporate each planet's uniqueness into the tunes. For instance, when I wrote "Mercury" I knew I wanted a bunch of changing meters going from 4/4 to 3/4, and 2/4 times to represent Mercury going into Retrograde. And for "Saturn" I worked on developing layers and modulations to represent the outer rings that make the planet Saturn so distinctive." Franks' Planets features 11 compositions based on 9 planets, and the Sun and Moon.
Musicians:
Rebecca Coupe Franks - trumpet
Luis Perdomo - piano
