Blessed with a bold tone and hard bop-informed improvisational chops, his trumpet and flugelhorn have graced hundreds of albums from James Taylor, Bruce Springsteen and Parliament/Funkadelic to Frank Sinatra, Steely Dan, and Charles Mingus. He helped found Blood Sweat and Tears, joined both Horace Silver's and Art Blakey's legendary bands before co- launching the Brecker Brothers Band.
