3X Grammy Winner John Daversa Teams with Acclaimed Pianist Tal Cohen on "THE ART OF DUO, VOLUME ONE" Out February 3, 2023

On THE ART OF DUO VOLUME ONE, multi-Grammy award-winning trumpeter JOHN DAVERSA collaborates with acclaimed jazz pianist TAL COHEN, creating a special chemistry of spontaneity and improvisation that dives deep into the realms of possibilities and enchantment within the celebrated duo format. For Daversa and Cohen, playing together feels seamless and enables true and genuine improvisation. It is, "not just for the sake of it, but instead really, really honest reactionary improv, " Cohen expresses. These moments are what the two musicians live for, and it comes from a pure place. "The antithesis of playing from the mind — everything that we play comes from the heart, not the mind — it's not a science project, it's a human project, " echoes Daversa. And by so being, it requires depth, vulnerability, authenticity, and most of all trust. Heart based decisions and heart-based presence — the latter of which both musicians seem to never lack. THE ART OF DUO showcases many sides of John Daversa and Tal Cohen as players, composers, arrangers, and musical partners. Their keen sense for knowing when to push, lift, and/or embellish and harmonize together, seems to be an instinctual response, and a very much exclusive component of this duo's aura and energy. As a result, the project goes well beyond the traditional expectations of a jazz duo. With the sheer excitement of unfiltered experimentation, John and Tal flawlessly incorporate electric instrumentation and vocal performances alongside the piano/trumpet format.
