DC Jazz Festival Set to Officially Launch Next Week

The DC Jazz Festival is mere days away from welcoming an incredible lineup of regional, nationally, and internationally acclaimed artists into an array of venues around DC, for the 18th annual of the DC JazzFest, culminating in our big tentpole Labor Day weekend on the scenic Potomac Riverfront at The Wharf.

Signature DCJF programs include:

DC JazzFest at The Wharf (September 3 & 4). Featuring four stages, with events outdoors on the District Pier, Transit Pier, and Pearl Street stages, and a robust weekend of indoor performances at Union Stage, including the 2022 DCJazzPrix Finals.

A new addition to our always-scintillating DC JazzFest at The Wharf (September 3 & 4) lineup are two (ticketed) days of performances at the intimate, climate-controlled Union Stage (740 Water Street). Customarily Union Stage will host the DCJazzPrix Finals featuring Akua Allrich & The Tribe, the Jalen Baker Quartet, and the Julieta Eugenio Trio. In addition to the DCJP Finals, DCJF's Union Stage offerings will also include performances by Butcher Brown, vibraphonist Chien Chien Lu's Quintet, bassist Amy Shook's SR4tet, and vocalist-pianist Aaron Myers & Co.

DC JazzFest at Arena Stage (September 1 & 2). DC Jazz Fest's newest venue home is the welcoming confines of Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater (1101 6th St. SW). DC JazzFest will present two grand evenings at Arena Stage, including 2022 NEA Jazz Master and MacArthur "genius" award recipient violinist Regina Carter's new social justice project "Gone In a Phrase of Air" (9/1). On Friday 9/2 2022/2023 DC Jazz Festival artist-in-residence pianist-composer Orrin Evans will lead his exhilarating Captain Black Big Band with special guest NEA Jazz Master vocalist Dianne Reeves. On Saturday, Sept. 3 at Arena Stage DCJF will screen the 2022 documentary film "Hargrove" on the late jazz trumpet legend Roy Hargrove, followed by a panel discussion featuring former Roy Hargrove band pianist Marc Cary, Orrin Evans and film producer Eliane Henri.

Jazz in the 'Hoods (Aug. 31-Sept 2). Jazz takes over the District, including Kreeger Museum, Eaton Hotel, Anacostia BID, The Big Chair, and Takoma DC with presentations curated by Jazz in the 'Hoods partners. Artists and schedule now live at dcjazzfest.org.
