ERIKA PAUL JAZZ JUST FOR KIDS FYC

After decades of performing History of Jazz assembly concerts for over 100, 000 K-9th grade school children, Jazz pianist, singer, songwriter, performing artist and educator Erika Paul wanted to create a Jazz album for kids (and the young at heart), an interactive recording focusing on sharing the spirit, soul, passion and improvisational freedom of Jazz, America's unique original art form and major contribution to world music.

Erika wrote the words and music on the first 12 tracks, starting with the lyrics first, drawing from her own childhood music education to tell the story of each featured character's personal experience and approach to listening, learning, growing and performing Jazz, very much in the way that career Jazz performers share their own musical stories and experience with their audience through live concerts.

Erika found that the schoolchildren experiencing Jazz for the first time react with the joy of new discovery and surprise, often admitting they have heard Jazz but didn't know it was Jazz. After one assembly concert, the positive transformation that resulted was amazing to see.

While actively listening, learning, processing and performing through the first 12 tracks of originals on this album, the listener is rewarded with track 13, one of the most popular Ragtime Marches of it's day played by Erika on solo piano, followed by her trio performing one of the most recognized and loved children's jazz songs ever written on track 14. Now's the time to clap, tap, scat, snap, sing, march and dance together in celebration of the gift of American Jazz at any age!

Track Descriptions:

Tracks 1 through 12 are originals. Tracks 13 and 14 are covers. Track 1 takes the listener through 7 styles of jazz. Track 2 is in the Dixieland style. Track 3 is in the Blues style. Track 4 is a Jazz Waltz. Track 5 is a traditional Swing. Track 6 is in the Bebop style. Track 7 is in swanky Retro Swing. Track 8 is an Afro-Cuban Mambo.
