| HBG Jazz Presents Destiny Muhammad “Harp Meets Jazz” with Brandee Younger Sun, Feb 27 Destiny Muhammad: Harp Meets Jazz Zoom Presentation with Special Guest Brandee Younger Sunday, February 27, 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm Pacific Time Healdsburg Jazz presents 2022 Artist in Residence Destiny Muhammad's "Harp Meets Jazz, " an eclectic introspective on the Harp's African Origins and The Jazz Harp Legacy of Alice Turiyasangitananda Coltrane, Dorothy Ashby, and Destiny's own compositions. Destiny Muhammad will host, with special guest, Grammy-nominated harpist and composer Brandee Younger. Destiny will play recordings by Alice Coltrane and Dorothy Ashby and also share excerpts from her 2021 curation with The San Francisco Symphony titled "Resilience." Special guest and IMPULSE Recording Artist and 2021 GRAMMY Nominee Brandee Younger will join Destiny in a spirited conversation about their collective journeys to composing, performing, and recording jazz harp. Destiny Muhammad Healdsburg Jazz is proud and honored to announce that harpist, composer, and educator Destiny Muhammad will be our 2022 Artist in Residence! Destiny is based in Oakland, CA and has been a musical force in the Bay Area music community for the past 2 decades. She has worked with SFJAZZ, the San Francisco Symphony, Yerba Buena Gardens Festival, Grace Cathedral, and was a featured artist in our 2021 Healdsburg Jazz Summer Festival. We are thrilled to be working with such a visionary and accomplished musician, educator, and community activist. "I am truly honored to be the Healdsburg Jazz 2022 Artist in Residence. This residency is a beautiful gift that offers me the opportunity to create new compositions that speak of the paradigm-shifting COVID 19 pandemic and its spiritual impact on our communities. This residency also creates the space for me to publicly honor my JAZZ Harp jegnas such as Alice Turiyasngetananda Coltrane and Dorothy Ashby and their contributions to the sound of JAZZ, " Destiny Muhammad. Destiny Muhammad will be a central part of our programming for 2022 including as a featured artist in our Summer Festival, a teaching artist for our educational programming, composing and creating a new work that reflects on the pandemic, and hosting one of our educational Zoom talks on February 27, 2022 "Harp Meets Jazz."
