The album will be released by the Spanish record label Sedajazz Records. His previous albums include Swingando (released independently) and Nu Brasil, released in 2018 by the New York Latin label Zoho Music. These albums reflect all the emotions, energy, and dynamics of growing up in Rio, living around the globe, and being in touch with his culture throughout his life. Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Sergio started playing acoustic guitar at the age of 8 years old. Motivated by his older brother, who played the guitar and helped him with his first chords, Sergio was later influenced by the music of bossa-nova giants at the time such as Joao Gilberto, Tom Jobim, Carlos Lyra, Joao Donato, Marcos Valle, and many others. Moving to New York in the '80s has expanded his musical knowledge by studying with some of the jazz greats, including Chuck Wayne, Sal Salvador, Alex Adrian, Hui Cox, and Joe Carter. Since the beginning of the '90s, he has traveled the world, playing with different bands and venues in many other countries in Europe, Africa, and elsewhere. Sergio has shared music with Gil Goldstein, Mark Egan (Pat Metheny), Matt King (Chuck Loeb), Helio Alves, Nilson Matta, Mauricio Zottarelli, Ralph Moore, Lonnie Plaxico, Duduka da Fonseca, Alex Sipiagin, Reza Khan, Greg Skaff, Vitor Goncalves, Filo Machado and many others. He has been performing in the United States and Europe at venues such as Club Bonafide, Cornelia Street Cafe, The Jazz Forum, and The Zinc Bar in New York; the Madrid International Jazz Festival, Valencia Jazz Festival, Sala Clamores, Sala Matisse, El Plaza Jazz Club, Cafe Mercedes Jazz, Sala Matisse, La Fabrica de Hielo, Veles e Vents and the Jimmy Glass Jazz Club in Spain. Sergio is currently releasing his third album, Finesse. The album will be released by the Spanish record label Sedajazz Records. His previous albums include Swingando (released independently) and Nu Brasil, released in 2018 by the New York Latin label Zoho Music. Swingando won "Best Latin Jazz Album" with the Clouzine International Music Award, and Nu Brasil won two Global Music Awards for "Best Album" and "Best Brazilian/Latin Jazz" (Silver Medal). Additionally, the Clouzine International Music Award (Winner), Independent Music Award (nominated for Best Latin Song category), International Songwriting Competition (song: Nu Brasil - semi-finalist). These albums include some of the most well-known musicians in the world, such as pianist Helio Alves, flutist Oriente Lopez, harmonica player Gabriel Grossi, saxophonist Perico Sambeat, singer Paula Santoro, guitarist Marcus Texeira, and drummer Mauricio Zottarelli, to name a few. His latest album, Finesse, has been co-produced by drummer/producer Mauricio Zottarelli and was recorded remotely during the Pandemic 2019/20.
