Spanish Folk At Its Finest with Vigüela - A la manera artesana

"Vigüela is a Toledo-based outfit of singers, guitarists and players of castanets, tambourines, shearing scissors, cowbells, sieves, the lute-like bandurria medieval fiddle…. You name it… they sound like a wandering tribe who have investigated and rescued the soul music of inland Spain." **** Songlines

The Spanish region of Castilla La-Mancha is rich with artisan crafts and produce. Home to some world-known delicacies, like the Manchego cheese, the saffron or the local red wines, it was the seat of inspiration for Miguel de Cervantes' classic novel The Ingenious Gentleman, Don Quixote of La Mancha. Castilla La-Mancha has very strong musical traditions that have been explored by Spanish folk quintet, Vigüela, for the last thirty years.

Vigüela's new album, A la manera artesana - In the artisan way - is presented to you here. Twenty-one Spanish songs and dances from the pueblos (villages), farms and rural ciudad (cities) in Castilla-La Mancha. Preserving time-honoured rhythms and vocal melodies of the traditional songs and dances that were first sung there, A la manera artesana is a definitive folk dance and songbook of Castilla-La Mancha, a well-crafted journey through the music of the terrain.
