| HERBERT - ‘MUSCA’ • OUT NOW ON ACCIDENTAL The third installment of Matthew Herbert's domestic house series 'Musca' is out now. 'Musca' is the third in the series of domestic house albums to follow Herbert's groundbreaking LP classics 'Around The House' (1998), and 'Bodily Functions' (2001) which were recently reissued on vinyl as part of the label's '21st anniversary of the Accidental label' series of celebrations. This new LP sees Matthew teaming up with eight singers - Verushka, Siân Roseanna, Allie Armstrong, Bianca Rose, Mel Uye-Parker, Daisy Godfrey, Y'akoto and Joy Morgan - who recorded remotely during the lockdown and with whom he has never worked before or met in person. To date, the singles 'The Way', 'Fantasy', 'Hypnotised' and 'Gold Dust' have received radio support on BBC 6 Music (Gilles Peterson, Tom Ravenscroft), BBC Radio 3 Late Junction (Verity Sharp), Radio X (John Kennedy), Worldwide FM (Rob da Bank, Global Roots and Kate Hutchinson), Late Night Likes (Bill Brewster), DJ Dixon's Spotify track IDs. The album takes its name from musca - the genus part of the latin name for a housefly and includes a variety of sounds from around the farm where he lives in South East Kent, UK, including a synth made from his wife's dog, one of his pigs snoring and fox cubs gekkering. "Musca magnifies the alternative jazz and R&B strains of Herbert's catalogue, and yet also quietly meditates on the ethos of dance music, plotting the personal and the intimate against the political and the universal." - Bleep write your comments about the article :: © 2021 Jazz News :: home page |
