The IAJO celebrates 25 years on the web. Its founder, Jürgen Wolf from Köln/Germany, talks about how he had the idea to found the IAJO

Following my deep interest for both the organ and jazz, I started very early to collect jazz organ music. When the internet started in the 1990s, I realized the great possibility to share information about jazz organists with a wider audience. I started the web site for the IAJO in 1996 with just 20 pages. Soon, the site grew to the 3, 000 pages it is today. About 800 organists are listed with their profiles and discographies. The aims are defined as follows:

complete collection of jazz organ music
cataloguing the contents
providing information about both the records and the musicians

Of the many of the organists I contacted, there were some I had the pleasure of meeting in person (such as Jimmy Smith, Jack McDuff, Joey DeFrancesco, Lonnie Smith, Tony Monaco, Larry Goldings, to name a few), and some became real friends. It was and is still a great pleasure to have all these wonderful contacts worldwide.

A problem arose over the years: You can manage a small website yourself, knowing some HTML code only. But the dimension the site has grown to today would need an experienced web designer whom I am definitively not. So this site is far from being optimized - a fan called it a "work of love". My website is maintained benevolently without profit, no cookies, no ads, no tracking.

I want to thank all my friends, organists and followers for a whole bunch of support and loyalty. The IAJO web site would not have been possible without them.

Please check the IAJO website iajo.org. If you want to contact me, please drop a note to organ@iajo.org.
