The poetry in LIVING WITH HOPE was developed during a four-week creative writing workshop held in July for people over 50 years old sponsored by Staten Island Arts. Ms Otis collaborated with Performers/Teaching Artists/ Writers Larry Marshall and Thomas Walker to encourage participants to express themselves through creative writing about life 's challenges …especially in these times. The workshop participants include: Theodora Cross, Blanche Hynes, Denise Lock, Sheila Nelson, Irene Staton, Jessica Slote,, Joanie H F Zoiske,, Robin Weir, and the late Sajda Mussawir Ladner. This performance is dedicated to Sajda Mussawir Ladner, President and Co-Founder of the UNIVERSAL TEMPLE OF THE ARTS who passed away on August 18, 2021 shortly after recording her piece on August 8th.." I am spiritual and honest". Her legacy will continue to be one that compels us all to gather in community built on love, peace, and propelled by the arts. There is a companion CD to the performance recorded at MOON STUDIOS, Staten Island, Henry Falco CEO. The music both on the CD and in performance has been conceived by Yuuki Koike and Kazuo Nakamura founders of the Jazz/ Asian influenced musical group WAFOO. Ongoing workshops for the writer's workshop will be presented under the auspices of SUNDOG THEATER, Susan Fenley Director. Ms Otis, the production team, and the workshop participants are proud and grateful to be included in this generous initiative. Over the course of three award cycles, more than 3, 000 artists will receive $5, 000 grants to engage the public with artist activities across New York City's five boroughs this summer and fall. Artists can use the grant to create new work or phase of a work, or restage preexisting creative activities across any discipline. Members of the public can participate in City Artist Corps Grants programming by following the hashtag #CityArtistCorps on social media. City Artist Corps Grants was launched in June 2021 by NYFA and DCLA with support from the Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment (MOME) as well as Queens Theatre. The program is funded by the $25 million New York City Artist Corps recovery initiative announced by Mayor de Blasio and DCLA earlier this year. The grants are intended to support NYC-based working artists who have been disproportionately impacted by COVID-19. It is strongly recommended that a portion of the grant be used to support artist fees, both for the applying artist and any other artist that are engaged to support the project. write your comments about the article :: © 2021 Jazz News :: home page |
