From track one's introductory phrase on Jobim's "A Felicidade" it is clear that this is not a typical Bossa nova project as the band turns up the both the tempo and the heat with the spontaneity and interplay of a jazz quintet and Mafalda is clearly the horn. "As a vocalist, her technique is sublime; she sings not simply with facility, but with faculties, employing anatomical jurisdictions that only a handful of the top singers [in any style] do….she sings, vocalises wordlessly and makes her way through songs using "vocal percussion" to duel with the musicians and to have you at the edge of your seat – on "Chega de Saudade", for example. Anyone who thinks that this hyperbole is itself unwarranted and over-the-top has only to listen to Miss Minnozzi interpret the aforementioned song and then follow that up with a wordless and breathy, version of Djavan's "Jogral" to listen to just how she can perform the most incredible vocalastics… And to follow that up with the most evocative version of Jobim's "Dindi" from an inspired, exceptionally bluesy arrangement certainly makes all of this music to absolutely die for." - Raul Da Gama - latinjazznet.com "The vibe on the recording is uplifting and evokes the aesthetic of Joao Gilberto beautifully. He's smiling from the beyond" - Bobby Sanabria (8x Grammy nominee and radio host at WBGO) Video playlist of each song here; 1.A Felicidade https://youtu.be/aU3ny3V1ha8 2.Vivo Sonhando https://youtu.be/xNd6vLtZPCI 3.Morro Dois Irmaos https://youtu.be/_R4cyjOmuLk 4.E Preciso Perdoar (Lonnie's Lament) https://youtu.be/lWFupXo2VK8 5.Desafinado https://youtu.be/V8Ab-Yb6nJQ 6.Mocidade https://youtu.be/A2IjvcW2Fj4 7.Samba da Bençao https://youtu.be/LZIBl9RjBNY 8.Once I Loved https://youtu.be/FMS1zFmn6VM 9.Triste https://youtu.be/An_sWU8vA6g 10.Chega de Saudade https://youtu.be/k0B1zuDeKcI 11.Jogral https://youtu.be/8pnBru4lsRQ 12.Un Altro Addio https://youtu.be/mgJOO0SlAF4 13.Dindi https://youtu.be/277UY2eO15A write your comments about the article :: © 2021 Jazz News :: home page |
