| Mr Diagonal — Maybe I'll Build a Boat Mr Diagonal (Glasgow/Brussels/LA) is releasing today a music video for his new single "Maybe I'll Build a Boat". The track is taken from his fifth album "North Pacific" to be released July 23, 2021 on CD and message in a bottle formats. For the occasion, Psychedelic Baby Mag is publishing an in depth interview with the artist while other blogs are premiering the video around Europe. Mr Diagonal (Glasgow/Brussels/LA) releases his 5th album "North Pacific" july 23, 2021, in 3 formats: CD, keyring and message in a bottle. Founder and frontman of Black Light Orchestra, pioneers of the Brussels 'sprout rock' scene of the mid 2000s, he enjoys cult status in Japan and growing recognition in Los Angeles, where he recently composed for and played in a Hollywood flm. Often compared with Divine Comedy, Kurt Weil or Danny Elfman, his songs are noted for their lyrical precision, a harmonic invention and a density of imagination and arrangement that recalls the 'light' music of yesteryear. It's a playful, knowing pop that hides a romantic soul with bipolar tendencies. ABOUT THE ALBUM Perhaps the first belgo-scottish desert island disc, North Pacific is a maritime mirage in full-screen stereo, a summer soundtrack for drifters and dreamers. The album comes in 3 formats: digisleeve CD with full lyric booklet, keyring with download code, and as a message in a bottle. Inside the bottle, a map leads to a double treasure: a download code and a private video to make one's own origami boat. After emptying the bottle, the listener is offered a 2nd download code, and invited to throw it back in the sea for the next castaway. Developed during lockdown, this innovative distribution strategy should bring his music to new audiences in uncharted territories. ABOUT THE MUSIC VIDEO Filmed on location at Brussels' best beach, Maybe I'll Build a Boat is an ocean dream of a tropical Christmas. Accompanied by his private string orchestra, we enter Mr Diagonal's magic bubble, to savour for a brief moment a topsy-turvy world. Directed by Mr Diagonal with the help of two pros from the RTBF (Belgian national TV): Ridha ben Hmouda (camera) and Edouard Laloy (editing). Always the purist, the special effects are strictly analogue (meaning home-made snow-flakes, and his flatmate with a lantern and a fishing rod). write your comments about the article :: © 2021 Jazz News :: home page |
