This Sunday: Houston Person and Bill Charlap

May 9, 4:00 p.m.
Houston Person and Bill Charlap
Recorded Live in the Shea Center at
William Paterson University

This spring's Jazz Room at Home Series ends with a special Mother's Day concert featuring an all-star duo of Grammy-winning pianist and WP Jazz Studies Director Bill Charlap and veteran tenor saxophonist Houston Person. Person's long recording career includes dozens of solo albums, and collaborations and features with saxophonist Gene Ammons and guitarist Grant Green. His many recordings with longtime partner, singer Etta Jones, and the legendary bassist Ron Carter are among his best-known music. Charlap's trio for over 20 years is considered to be among the finest ensembles in jazz. He recently collaborated on an award-winning CD with vocalists Tony Bennett and Diana Krall, and he has led the 92nd Street Y's Jazz in July series for many years. Charlap's encyclopedic knowledge of the Great American Songbook and Person's bluesy melodicism will create a memorable and swinging event.

Admission: Pay What You Choose (Starting at $10); $8 for Non-William Paterson students and WP Community; Free for WP students. Students can send requests for free access to jazzroom@wpunj.edu.

Sittin' In Meet-the-Artist interview with Houston Person and Bill Charlap is free and open to the public one hour prior to the concert (3:00 p.m.) and available for viewing anytime thereafter on the WP Presents! YouTube channel.
