A word about the Dorthaan Kirk Opportunity Fund: Dorthaan was instrumental in the formation of WBGO-FM, one of the most important Jazz radio stations in the world. She has been producing jazz events for young and old for nearly 40 years; The New York Times called her "Newark's First Lady of Jazz." Before coming to WBGO, Dorthaan traveled the world with her late husband, the great Jazz musician, composer and band leader, Rahsaan Roland Kirk. In appreciation for all she has done for the world of jazz, several of her friends created The Dorthaan Kirk Opportunity Fund. The Fund is designed to provide opportunities for talented deserving youth that might unleash the spark that a young person needs to embark on a path to reach his or her full potential. Last year, the Fund provided scholarships to three young musicians: two associated with Jazz House Kids and another with Louis Armstrong Jazz Camp in New Orleans. Administrative support is provided by the Community Foundation of New Jersey. http://cfnj.org/. Contributions to the Fund are tax deductible under the full extent of the law. P.S.
