Musicians Wolfgang Muthspiel and Christian Muthspiel Celebrate Their Father's Life with Video Premiere Super8Music PREMIERE ON MARCH 18, 2021 https://youtu.be/YOaZKWK-BN8 "Twenty years ago, on March 18, 2001, our father Kurt Muthspiel passed away. We remember with great joy a man who instilled in his four children a passion for music, " explains Wolfgang Muthspiel, accomplished Austrian guitarist, composer and label founder. He and his brother Christian Muthspiel, trombonist, conductor and composer, are releasing a 50-minute video honoring their father. The premiere is scheduled for March 18, 2021. The well-known Swiss director Pierre-Yves Borgeaud, revered for his documentaries on Youssou N'Dour and Gilberto Gil, among others, has created eight different video clips for this occasion, consisting of Super 8 film material from the family archive. Filmed mostly by the father himself, at an early time when family captures were still an adventure, Super8Music shares private impressions of the Muthspiel family in everyday life. These video clips were conceived for the musical documentary "Family Music" produced for Swiss television, but have never been shown in their entirety. One witnesses the silent protagonists of the original Super 8 films participating in daily routines and family vacations. Borgeaud has edited these films in a poetic and haunting manner. The nostalgic rattling of the projector is replaced by special music: soundtrack excerpts from the CD Early Music, with compositions by the two brothers, initially issued on Material Records in 2003. On this release, Wolfgang and Christian reflect on the roots of their musical language, dating back to the early years when singing and making music together belonged to everyday family life. In the liner notes to their CD the musicians explain that the title Early Music is to be understood in two ways: on the one hand as a description of childhood impressions in the musical field, but on the other hand as a reference to Renaissance choral music, which, along with Alpine folk music, was a particular passion of their father. Says Wolfgang, "The music that Christian and I created has its genesis in choral pieces that our father rehearsed and performed with the A-Capella Choir Zeltweg, an ensemble he led and conducted. The 50 minutes of this film are the essence of our family and the soundtrack of our childhood. He worked as a jazz drummer and freelance journalist before moving to New York in 1996 to study film and video at New York University. In 1999, Borgeaud founded the production company Momentum Production and directed music videos and documentaries before winning the Golden Leopard at the Locarno Festival in 2003 with his fictional feature IXth: Diary of a Homebound. In 2008, he created the internationally award-winning documentary Return to Gorée, in which he follows the footsteps of jazz and slavery with Youssou N'Dour. His latest documentary Viramundo: a musical journey with Gilberto Gil, has been released in 12 countries.
