This entire recording is a love letter to dear friend, Pittsburgh jazz fixture, and namesake for Maureen's Jazz Cellar, Maureen Budway. From the first note, it is quite apparent that Tania has lived in and loved these songs. Some were originally arranged with her husband and musical partner, Jeff, for a series of six concerts at City of Asylum, a literary and music performance hub in Pittsburgh. From this body of work came a stunning original composition set to Emily Dickinson's poem "Hope is a Thing with Feathers".

All the musicians here have ties to Pittsburgh and Maureen, the beloved inspiration for this performance. Live at Maureen's was approached with deep respect and care for the music, and an abundance of love and togetherness that inspired it. Each artist had the freedom to share their voice, resulting in a rich, organic meld. The artists savored the feel and aesthetic of the Cellar, embracing the entire room, and loving that moment. This live recording truly reflects the special spirit and FUN had during this performance - an almost tangible feeling.

Tania was thrilled to live in the moment with her fellow musicians, freely give of herself, and have the freedom to create, collaborate, and truly celebrate the music in a deeply felt way. On this night, the complete band respected, remembered, and celebrated both Maureen, and the deep love that music wraps everyone in.

Knowing Tania Grubbs for the past 20 plus years has been a joy. Not only because of her skill as an artist, but her connection to humanity. This offering is a beautiful sonic depiction of her soul and connection to all of us and delivered in style!"
—Sean Jones, renowned trumpeter, recording artist, and educator

"The playing is top notch, the repertoire is very interesting (not your typical standards only), and Tania's vocals are superb…Grubbs' arrangements (together with husband Jeff Grubbs), along with pianist David Budway's execution make the whole project cohesive and musical."
—Dr. Brad Stone, The Creative Source, SoulAndJazz.com

"It is obvious, listening to Live At Maureen's Jazz Cellar, that Tania Grubbs deserves to be much better known. Her singing is classy, very musical, and a consistent delight" —Scott Yanow, jazz journalist/historian

"This recording has many wonderful facets to me, personally as well as musically! Tania Grubbs is an exceptional Jazz Singer, and was a close personal friend of my late sister Maureen Budway-to whom 'Maureen's Jazz Cellar' was named. So it is very appropriate that Tania's recording is the premiere of the "Live at Maureen's" recording series. This recording is not to be missed. "
—David Budway, musician/owner of Maureen's Jazz Cellar
