3D Jazz Trio - I Love To See You Smile - Diva Jazz - May 22nd

Fiercely swinging on purpose, WITH purpose, this powerhouse trio plays original, traditional and contemporary standards from all genres of music. Their unique style and innovative arrangements are always super-charged by their boundless musical joy and gratitude.

Sherrie, Amy, and Jackie met in May of 2014 at the Cleveland Playhouse while playing in The DIVA Jazz Orchestra as part of Maurice Hines' award-winning show Tappin' Thru Life. From their first shared downbeat, they became kindred-swinging spirits, and the resulting musical synergy was fast and fierce...or as the New York Times said… "Blistering Hot!" The show received the 2016 Audelco Awards' Musical Production of the Year.

Since its inception, 3D has performed at many of the world's most prestigious venues and festivals, including: The Blue Note (NYC), Dizzy's Club (NYC), Mezzrow (NYC), Lincoln Center Out-of-Doors (NYC), The Jazz Kitchen (Indianapolis, IN), Blues Alley (DC), Tri-C Jazz Festival (OH), The Deer Head Inn (PA), Rochester International Jazz Festival (Rochester, NY), The Gilmore International Keyboard Festival (Kalamazoo, MI), and the Festival Internacional de Música La Guarapachanga (Pinar del Rio, Cuba). They were featured on The Kate TV's "live" music series with Maurice Hines (PBS) and three times on WVIA radio's Homegrown Music Series.

Jackie, Amy and Sherrie are also experienced and enthusiastic educators. In 2019, the group received a rousing standing ovation as they headlined the opening performance at the Jazz Educator's Network Conference in Reno, NV. They were recently guest soloists with the Binghamton University Jazz ensemble (NY), and they've presented workshops and clinics at numerous universities, colleges, and high schools throughout the country. In summer 2020, they will serve as artists-in-residence for the second time at Maryland Summer Jazz in Rockville, MD.

3D's most recent recording, I Love To See You Smile, was recorded in January 2020 at Red Rock Recording Studio. The band's self-entitled CD, 3Divas, was released in 2016 and recorded live at WVIA Radio. Look for their upcoming release, Holiday in 3D, in November 2020.

Jackie Warren: Cleveland Jazz Legend Award Winner. Sought After Guest Soloist. Revered Educator at

Each member of 3D is a Crazy Cat Lady.

Jackie, Amy and Sherrie are the closest of friends and kindred musical spirits. They recognize their musical selves in each other, and that amazing and powerful force opens wide all channels of creativity, passion, and their ferocious and fiery sense of swing. Their music is both deeply profound and serious fun, alternately resulting in feelings of reverence and gratitude, or peals of laughter and dancing because the groove feels so good. The music on I Love To See You Smile has deep meaning to all three of the artists, both personally and as a band. From private moments to long tours…this is music that makes them smile.

I Love To See You Smile (from the movie Parenthood) embodies the 3D philosophy, wanting to bring joy, laughter and smiles to their listeners.

Besame Mucho reflects the deep love of Cuban music by the band, featuring the expertise of pianist Jackie Warren in
the genre.

Moonglow is a celebration of the band's love of slow, bluesy tempos and finding the perfect pocket.

Back At The Chicken Shack is autobiographical of Jackie's upbringing in Colorado, and her pet chickens Kleuter and Spotty Spofford (and 3D's love of Jimmy Smith and the shuffle).

Angel Eyes is a dedication to Amy Shook's mom, who transitioned on the winter solstice in December 2019. It was her favorite song, and she loved how 3D played it.

Recado Bossa Nova was inspired by Sherrie's love of playing Brazilian music - by the "dance" of the rhythmic energy and the drive of the groove.

When You and I Were Young, Maggie was one of Jackie's mom's favorite songs and has now become a favorite of
the trio.

L.O.V.E. is 3D's tribute to Maurice Hines, Jr., the Force of Nature who brought the 3D Jazz Trio together. It is a featured show-stopper in his award winning musical Tappin' Thru Life.

To connect with like minds, hearts, souls, and ears is the most fun thing about playing music, and this recording is all about it!
