| Jazz In The Valley 2019: Celebrating 100 Years of Art Blakey...This Sunday! Aug. 18th Waryas Park Poughkeepsie, NY Jazz in the Valley Artistic Director Javon Jackson celebrates the legacy of the great Art Blakey by reuniting one of the consummate percussionist's most dynamic, spirited lineups of Jazz Messengers. This ensemble features Jackson on tenor saxophone; Robin Eubanks, trombone; Philip Harper, trumpet; Benny Green, piano, and Willie Jones III filling the seat once held by Blakey. Blakey fans will recognize this lineup from such acclaimed albums 'Not Yet', 'I Get a Kick Out of Bu', and 'One For All'. These are the final releases that Blakey recorded with the messengers prior to his passing in 1990. At this ensemble's inception in 1988, SoulNote records billed it as 'the most exciting group of young jazz messengers in years.' During the recording of the group's 1988 album "Not Yet", Producer Mike Hennessy exclaimed that "Once again Blakey's flair for picking players of enormous promise is demonstrated. This is an album in the best Messenger's tradition, with five highly creative musicians." For the first time since Blakey's passing, this lineup will assemble to pay tribute to the man who gave them the gig of a lifetime and set 5 young musicians on course to become the most formidable names in jazz.
