| BRAZILIAN JAZZ LEGEND RETURNS TO THE MAVERICK BRAZILIAN JAZZ LEGEND RETURNS! Bossa Nova! Samba! Choro! Foro! Afro-Brazilian! NILSON MATTA'S BRAZILIAN JAZZ VOYAGE Jazz at the Maverick Saturday, July 13 8pm The mighty mighty NILSON MATTA, bass/percussion HARRY ALLEN, sax HELIO ALVES, piano ADRIANO SANTOS, drums He's the hottest Brazilian jazz bassist in the world and he will be exclusively ours this Saturday! Nilson Matta and his ensemble are returning to the Maverick to celebrate the music of the greatest Brazilian composers of all time - Carlos Jobim, Luiz Bonfá, Donato, Roberto Menescal, Mr. Matta himself, and we couldn't be happier! Widely celebrated as one of the great exponents of Brazilian music, Antônio Carlos Brasileiro de Almeida Jobim internationalized Bossa Nova and, with the help of great American artists such as Stan Getz and Frank Sinatra, merged it with jazz in the 60s to create a new sound with remarkably popular success. As such he is lovingly known as the "Father of Bossa Nova". Considered one of the hottest bassists in the world, the Grammy-nominated Matta has also been a force in the evolution and popularity of Brazilian jazz. He has performed and recorded with renowned artists Paquito D'Rivera, Herbie Mann, Claudio Roditi, and many others. When Yo Yo Ma sought band members to fill his Brazilian project, Nilson was the obvious choice on bass. He recorded on "Obrigado Brazil", "Live in Concert at Carnegie Hall" and "Yo Yo Ma & Friends". All of these were Grammy winners. A full house is expected so we highly recommend that patrons purchase reserved seats. We very much look forward to welcoming you to this marvelously Maverick evening! write your comments about the article :: © 2019 Jazz News :: home page |
