Rick Alexander's latest brings new life to golden era tunes!

"Strike Up the Band" (OiM1912) captures the true spirit of the classic swing lineage in a fresh and invigorated way. Alexander and the band keep the tradition alive with a beautifully warm, soft and lyrical sound. The band navigates chord changes in interesting and original ways while staying melodic and true to the intensity of swing. As with many classic records of the time, the album was recorded on eight vintage ribbon microphones, delivering the genuinely warm and honest sound of the golden era of jazz. The ease and comfortability in the recording is a reflection of the band's opportunity to work beside each other regularly in the NYC jazz scene. However, true to the spontaneity of the classic jazz recordings, where two artists who never played together may come together and record, there was a welcomed addition to the band for the recording. Legendary guitarist James Chirillo came in the day of the recording and without ever previously playing with band, added a truly fresh and illustrious presence.
