At the height of the movie musical, in the age of such great dancers as Bojangles Robinson, Fred Astaire, and Gene Kelly, there was one dance team that literally flew above all the others: Fayard (1914-2006) and Harold (1921-2000) Nicholas. They were the flashiest, the liveliest, the most exciting and even astonishing pair of dancers to ever strut their stuff on a Broadway stage or Hollywood screen. Where other dancers merely suspended disbelief, the Nicholas Brothers repealed the law of gravity, with leaps and splits, that left other hoofers staring gape-jawed. Bruce Goldstein, who knew both brothers well, has spent decades assembling all the complex pieces of their remarkable story, and this once-in-a-lifetime presentation features not only classic clips from their famous films but ultra-rare behind-the-scenes footage, often shot by members of the Nicholas Family, and unseen interviews with colleagues such as Gregory Hines, Maurice Hines, Leonard Reed, Cab Calloway, Max Roach, and Bobby Short, not to mention Harold and Fayard themselves.
