| Trombone Shorty Foundation announces 7th Annual SHORTY FEST Presented by Acura The Trombone Shorty Foundation will hold its 7th annual "Shorty Fest" presented by Acura on Wednesday, May 1 on the eve of the historic Rolling Stones performance at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival! This year's stellar Shorty Fest lineup features, as always, a full headlining performance by Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue (with special guests). Shorty Fest takes place at House of Blues, 225 Decatur Street in New Orleans at 8 p.m. Tickets go on sale Thursday, Feb. 21 at 10 a.m., and will be available at houseofblues.com/neworleans. Shorty Fest 2019 will present music on two stages including New Orleans' brass powerhouse The Soul Rebels with Cuban percussion master Pedrito Martinez, Southern Avenue (out of Memphis, TN and fresh off Jam Cruise), the debut of Tribal Gold - The New Orleans Suspects with the Golden Commanche Mardi Gras Indians, the Erica Falls Band, New Breed Brass Band, Lil' Glenn & Backatown, and Basin Street recording artist Saràyah. The performance by Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue will be the band's only appearance during the second week of the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival other than the closing slot on the festival's main stage. "This is the biggest night of the year for the foundation, " says Troy "Trombone Shorty" Andrews. "So much amazing music combined with the spirit of passing it on makes for a magical combination. Let's keep it going!" Founded by Andrews in 2012, the Trombone Shorty Foundation is his vision to inspire the next generation by developing their musical talent and connecting them to the city's unique musical heritage. Currently in its seventh year, the foundation offers music performance and music business programs for high school-aged music students. These students learn homegrown New Orleans music—from brass band and traditional jazz to more modern funk and rhythm & blues styles, all of which play an integral role in the richness and depth of New Orleans' musical legacy. "When the Trombone Shorty Academy Students, who work so hard all year to prepare for this epic evening, take the stage with Troy, " says Executive Director Bill Taylor, "you are watching past, present, and future all come together. It doesn't get any better than that!"
