21st-century soprano saxophonist Jane Ira Bloom
reimagines the poetry of 19th-century visionary Emily Dickinson.

Award winning soprano saxophonist/composer Jane Ira Bloom presents "Wild Lines, " her project for jazz quartet and spoken word, inspired by the poetry of Emily Dickinson, which is featured on her latest album "Wild Lines: Improvising Emily Dickinson". Bloom's reimagining of Dickinson was ignited when she learned that the poet was a pianist and improviser, reaffirming Bloom's intuitive connection to the jazz-like quality of Dickinson's writing. Bloom was inspired by the "extraordinary vitality" and "the felt improvisatory impulse" in Dickinson's language, a transcendent bond linking the poetic art of Bloom's 19th century muse with the lyrical saxophonist and composer's own poetically imaginative, wild lines and creative 21st century music. "Even though I don't always understand her, I always felt that Emily used words the way jazz musicians use notes."
The performance will feature poetry recitation from actress Deborah Rush which will echo and intermingle with music performed by Jane Ira Bloom, Dawn Clement (piano), and Mark Helias (bass).

Rizzoli Music Aperitivo is sponsored by Mionetto Prosecco and curated by Mondo Jazz, the weekly Radio Free Brooklyn show dedicated to international jazz.
