Reggie Washington releases "VINTAGE NEW ACOUSTIC" with a tune dedicated to ROY HARGROVE

Reggie Washington is an artist of rare breed who can play acoustic and electric basses, who can sing, who can mix Jazz, Funk & World Music while combining the life of leader and sideman.
Reggie was a key participant in the Modern Jazz revolution of the 80's and 90's. He became known touring, recording and performing with Steve Coleman, Branford Marsalis, Roy Hargrove, Chico Hamilton, Oliver Lake, Cassandra Wilson, Don Byron, Jean-Paul Bourelly, Lester Bowie, Meshell Ndegeocello to name a few.

A versatile, 360-degree musician, Reggie plays Jazz, Funk, R&B, Blues, World and Experimental music with a natural and contagious energy. His bass lines are both sophisticated and explicit. He is diligent in his work and enjoys mixing people of different cultures as a way to enhance music by learning from others and sharing ideas.

Reggie remains the favorite bassist of many great jazz stars and continues to play with Archie Shepp, Jacques Schwarz-Bart, Lisa Simone, Regina Carter, Robin Mc Kelle, gospel diva Liz McComb and Mike Clark.

ABOUT "VINTAGE NEW ACOUSTIC"
Reggie Washington has been trying for years to get involved in a project where, as a leader, he would play mostly acoustic bass. As Reggie says: "I have TWO bass personalities ... My electric & acoustic sides. They are different in how I express myself on each but both sides play in support of the music."

Just after the release of his new tribute to Jef Lee Johnson (Rainbow Shadow 2), Reggie rediscovers with happiness the overtones, vibrations, nuances and hum of the four strings of "his" acoustic bass in the album "Vintage New Acoustic".

Why VINTAGE NEW ACOUSTIC?

VINTAGE: To me, VINTAGE is something that has endured the test of time. It has its own story to tell. VINTAGE (music) is forever valuable & will remain timeless.
NEW: It's the feelings, ideas & direction we're trying to take for this music.

ACOUSTIC: I'm expressing myself through my of intense rhythms, acoustic bass & using it to drive the music.

When requested to underline what's important about this new album, Reggie answers:

"To continue to be FREE in my music and to express myself with creative musicians !I want my quartet to have fun, so that the audience hears the sound that happiness produces."

Reggie shares this new venture with three exceptional musicians:
Fantastic keyboardist Bobby Sparks revealed with Roy Hargrove & RH factor and one of the pillars of Snarky Puppy. Bobby is also touring with Chris Dave and Lizz Wright.

Belgian saxophonist Fabrice Alleman, composer, improviser and un- paralleled melodist whom Reggie loves the energy, lyricism, beautiful sound and contagious swing.

Drummer E. J. Strickland brings a unique ingredient to the music. Leader of an acclaimed quintet, he has agreed to put his talents at the service of Reggie's music. E.J. plays also with Ravi Coltrane, Christian Sands, Manuel Valera & others.
The quartet's repertoire is a mix of standards and jazz classics enriched with original pieces written and re-arranged to fit the group's mood.

This unique mix of tradition and innovation is further enhanced by the subtle combinations of jazz, funk, blues & neo-soul.
