Bassist, Flavio Lira - Coffee Gold Sugar Cane - Interrobang Records

Bassist, Flavio Lira original hails from Brazil. Lira is based in New York City. Very active and eclectic, musical styles have never been a restriction for him, and since the beginning, he has performed with groups ranging from Popular Samba to Classical Chamber Music.

In 2013, Flavio moved to Boston, and during this stage of his journey, Flavio kept developing the passion for his own musical roots, as well as working with different musical traditions of the world, such as Jazz, Caribbean music and others.

Now in New York, Flavio is able to fully employ his versatility as a musician, collaborating with different artists and performing in prestigious venues, such as Birdland and Jazz at Lincoln Center.

As part of his most recent project, Flavio is releasing the album, Coffee Gold Sugar Cane, a rhythmic fusion of Brazilian grooves, Cuban clave, Colombian folkloric and jazzy chords. Coffee Gold Sugar Cane is my love letter to all of Latin America: a rhythmic fusion of samba, baião, regional folklore, tumbao, clave, partido alto, jazz influence from the north, classical fugue, and more. The strength of Latin America is in its incomparable diversity. In this project I have brought together 38 artists from 15 different countries. It is the sort of cultural exchange made possible in this modern era of communication - an era in the spirit of mutual artistry and creative respect, rather than conquest. This is my tribute to these lands of endless musical treasures. May these treasures exist as long as the human spirit flourishes!
