Known for his "show-stopping" and "arresting" style (George Harris, All About Jazz Los Angeles), McCarthy has been a regular performer on the NY jazz scene since 2004. He has performed or recorded with musicians such as Steve Swallow, Ben Monder, Ari Hoenig, and George Garzone. Dan's dark and ethereal compositional style, along with his unexpected and angular improvisation, has led Nate Chinen at The New York Times to label Dan as "a vibraphonist with a charismatic and pointedly contemporary style".
