| The LESZEK WISNIOWSKI Quartet with special guest Jamie Baum Monday, August 6th 7pm @ Shapeshifter Lab The LESZEK "HEFI" WISNIOWSKI Quartet is the Polish group playing modern jazz music which is the result of an original concept by the leader Leszek Hefi Wisniowski as well as freedom and continuously changing alchemy between team members during their concerts and recordings. The music brings together elements of jazz and contemporary music. Wisniowski often uses the flute's extended techniques in virtuoso manner, moreover he uses the glissando headjoint - an innovative mouthpiece that allows him to explore new forms of musical expression. Wisniowski started a collaboration with outstanding American jazz flutist Jamie Baum in 2016. Very quickly both artists noticed that they had a similar improvisation approach and flute comprehension in jazz which has inspired them to continue this joint project. They first worked together in Poland and now, for the first time in NYC! "Uncompromising, very personal, excellently arranged standard themes and not least, interesting explosive improvisations. It thrills you, as first-class thrillers do, since the very first sounds...Perfect intonation, articulation and phrasing." -Jazz ForumMagazine "Leszek Wiśniowski is, I think, the most interesting (and still developing) flutist in Polish jazz. His "Kinetyka" is an astonishing musical concept which we will be returning to for years."
