He has been called a "griot of jazz and its African roots" and "one of the world's great visionary pianists and composers." A pioneer of multicultural expression on piano, his style draws from Ellington and Monk but is highly distinctive: percussive, rhythmic, capable of producing a wide range of moods. A true jazz great and one of its most important ambassadors. His life work has been in advocacy for connecting worlds of traditions in music. He has impacted jazz composition by pioneering multicultural expression with the piano since the 1950's. Jamaica Center for Arts and Learning (JCAL) and Seed Artists are honored to co-present the legendary Randy Weston on July 7, 2018, at 7:00PM, as part of JCAL's International Music Festival. write your comments about the article :: © 2018 Jazz News :: home page |
