| The NYYS Jazz Band with Ted Nash Monday, December 11th Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola Ted Nash: Extended Works The NYYS Jazz Band explores the music of Grammy Award-winning saxophonist and composer Ted Nash, a longtime member of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. Selections will include excerpts from Nash's Presidential Suite, exploring great 20th century political speeches dealing with the theme of freedom, and Portrait in Seven Shades, inspired by the paintings of Monet, Dali, Matisse, Picasso, and others. The concert will also feature the world premiere of Andrew Karboski's Groovement. About the New York Youth Symphony The New York Youth Symphony (NYYS) is one of the most awarded youth programs of its kind in the nation, recognized for its innovative, tuition-free educational programs for talented young musicians. Founded in 1963 as an orchestra to showcase the metropolitan area's most gifted musicians ages 12-22, its activities have since grown to encompass programs in chamber music, conducting, composition, and jazz, with performances at world class venues including Carnegie Hall and Jazz at Lincoln Center. As a tuition-free program, NYYS is proud of its socioeconomic diversity and core organizational values to educate and inspire young musicians through exceptional music training and performance opportunities.
