| Arun Luthra's Konnakol Jazz Project to Perform at Bar Next Door Arun Luthra's Konnakol Jazz Project will perform at Bar Next Door on Thursday, December 14th at 8:30 and 10:30pm. Known as one of Manhattan's premier jazz listening rooms, Bar Next Door is located in historic Greenwich Village, presenting world-class jazz in a truly New York City ambiance. Founded by bandleader Arun Luthra, the Konnakol Jazz Project fuses jazz with konnakol - South Indian classical music vocalized rhythms. Arun Luthra is one of New York's leading saxophonists and composers as well as an exponent of the art form of konnakol. As leader of the Konnakol Jazz Project, he is one of the few jazz musicians of Indian heritage fusing modern jazz with the rhythms of Indian classical music, as well as drawing from a wide variety of modern and classic influences to create a vibrant new sound and style. Luthra has performed the music of his Konnakol Jazz Project worldwide, including in Japan, Australia, Italy, the U.K., and throughout the United States. He has also shared the stage and recorded with many of the greatest jazz, Afro-Cuban, Brazilian, world music and pop artists in the world, including Billy Harper, Eddie Henderson, Kenny Garrett, Mike Stern, Joe Chambers, Charli Persip, Bernard Purdie, The Temptations, The Four Tops, Frankie Valli, Bobby Short, Lew Soloff, & Ze Renato. At Bar Next Door the musicians in Arun Luthra's Konnakol Jazz project will be Arun Luthra on tenor and soprano saxophones and performing konnakol, Evan Gregor on bass and Joe Spinelli on drums.
