| Jazz Connect Conference coming to NYC on January 5-6 The Jazz Connect Conference, organized by JazzTimes and the Jazz Forward Coalition, will be held January 5-6, 2017 at Saint Peter's Church in New York. Now in its fifth year, the conference will continue to focus on vital issues affecting the jazz community, with a theme of "The Family of Jazz." Pre-Registration is only $145.00 until December 15. The keynote speaker is Grammy-winning composer/bandleader Maria Schneider, who has been an active advocate for artists' rights. Another Grammy-winner, bassist/bandleader/radio host/artistic director Christian McBride, will receive the Bruce Lundvall Visionary Award and will be introduced by impresario George Wein. In addition, Rudresh Mahanthappa and Dorthaan Kirk will present Solo Spots in the style of TEDTalks. The conference offers a full lineup of panels and workshops on engaging topics including: social media from the artist's perspective; sonic branding; a fresh look at how music is bought, sold and consumed; innovative booking & touring strategies; streaming and downloading issues; direct-to-fan for income maximization; spotlight and showcase on jazz in Israel; community engagement for presenting jazz; and much more. The always popular Ask the Experts session returns to offer registrants the opportunity to meet face-to-face with influential and experienced industry leaders for helpful professional counsel.
