The Indus Raag project is an ace initiative to cultivate, archive and promote the inspirational legacy of music traditions of the sub-continent. Locating, discovering and understanding the rich repository of indigenous music and its contemporary re-creative expression, the project attempts to establish its relevance and commonality among the South Asian countries. The first album of the series, Indus Raag (sub-titled Music Beyond Borders) was launched in 2012. The album having earned considerable critical acclaim from noted music critics and connoisseurs, was taken as PakistanТs first ever entry for the Grammy Awards in 2014. УIndus Raag 2 Karachi Concerts is a sequel to above. It comprises of live sessions done over a period of seven years from 2009 to 2015. The box set of 6 Audio CDs and a DVD contains about ten hours of quality music featuring 65 musicians from Pakistan, India, UK, Germany, France and Turkey. Some of the artists featuring in the album are legendary Ustad Rais Khan Sitarnawaz, Grammy-winner Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, Ustad Naseeruddin Saami, Gundecha Brothers, Ashraf Sharif Khan, Ustad Fateh Ali Khan, Ustad Mubarak Ali Khan and others. It also includes visiting musicians from all over the world including Sam Carter, Caravan Quartet, Julian Joseph, Abaji, Simon Thacker and others. Indus Raag 2 is a soundscape specific to Karachi. As a mega-city, Karachi pulses to a distinct rhythm of its own. Home to several and diverse ethnicities this mini Pakistan evolved from a small coastal village, Kolachi, to become a cosmopolitan economic and cultural hub of Pakistan. As an album УIndus RaagФ captures the melodic flavours peculiar to the spirit of the city.
