| Julian Lage Brings His Trio Back to Maverick Concerts’ Stage  Maverick Concerts, the oldest continuous summer chamber music festival in America, celebrates the start of its second century of Music in the Woods this year. Guitarist Julian Lage returns to the Maverick Concert Hall on August 13 to perform the fifth concert in the Jazz at the Maverick series:Date and Time: Saturday, August 13 at 8 pm Location: 120 Maverick Road, Woodstock, NY 12498 Artists: Julian Lage Trio Musical Program: Jazz guitar trio (Julian Lage, guitar; Kenny Wollesen, drums; Jorge Roeder, bass) Julian Lage is a young jazz guitarist whom The New Yorker proclaimed, "is in the highest category of improvising musicians, those who can enact thoughts and impulses as they receive them." Nate Chinen of The New York Times called him "one of jazz's breezier virtuosos, possessed of an unflappable technical facility and a seemingly boundless curiosity." Maverick audiences already count Lage among their favorites, and welcome him back for another eagerly anticipated jazz concert. Lage has been universally praised in jazz circles and within other genres for his guitar artistry in performances and recordings with such masters as Gary Burton, Nels Cline (Wilco), Fred Hersch, Carlos Santana, Pat Metheny, Toots Thielemans, Mark O'Connor and Jim Hall. He started playing guitar when he was five years old, and three years later, was the subject of an Oscar-nominated documentary short film, "Jules At 8." He made his first recording at age 11 – "Dawg Duos" with David Grisman – and the following year, performed with Gary Burton at the 2000 Grammy Awards. His initial recording as a leader – 2009's "Sounding Point" – garnered a Grammy nomination for Best Contemporary Jazz Album: subsequent recordings of his original material and re-interpretations of the Great American Songbook and mid-20th century jazz before be-bop, have secured Lage's status as one of today's most sought-after jazz guitarists. His current release, "Arclight" (Mack Avenue, 2016), was produced by Grammy-winning guitarist/songwriter, Jesse Harris (Norah Jones, Madeleine Peyroux): the album features drummer Kenny Wollesen, who joins Lage and bassist Jorge Roeder on this Maverick concert. Upcoming concerts for the week of August 20-21 feature the rousing annual Saturday night performance by Chamber Orchestra and Maverick Chamber Players, conducted by Maverick Concerts' Music Director, Alexander Platt, and a Sunday afternoon concert by the Borromeo String Quartet.
