| Project Grand Slam plays free show at Kirby Center for Third Friday Wilkes-Barre on July 15 Jazz fusion band Project Grand Slam will perform at the F.M. Kirby Center in Wilkes-Barre for a free event on Friday, July 15 at 8 p.m. as part of Wilkes-Barre's Third Friday art walk. The show will also be part of the venue's "Live from the Chandelier Lobby" concert series, presented by Convenient Food Marts. Robert Miller's Project Grand Slam is an acclaimed jazz rock fusion band, combining the power and beat of rock with the complexity and improvisation of jazz, with a jam band sensibility. Their new, fourth album "The Queen's Carnival" will be released on Aug. 19 via Sony/RED. Bassist/leader/composer Robert Miller originally formed Project Grand Slam in 2007. The band's first two celebrated CDs, "Play" (2008) and "Spring Dance" (2012), had two top radio singles – "The Captain of Her Heart" (featuring Judie Tzuke on vocals) from "Play" and "Catch You Later" from "Spring Dance." The band also had a featured role in the hit NBC TV series "Lipstick Jungle" starring Brooke Shields and Kim Raver, with Miller having a speaking part and five of the band's tunes in the soundtrack. The Third Friday Wilkes-Barre art walk will take place from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. on July 15. Enjoy original artwork and music and meet artists, musicians, and friends in a casual, family-friendly atmosphere at participating galleries and businesses each month during the Third Friday Art Walk. July's Art Walk features three venues showcasing performances. The Wyoming Valley Art League is hosting "The Age of Aquarius" with The Music Room performing from 5:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. The Music Room – Michelle Millington and Barry Rodgers – will be joined by the Wyoming Valley West Middle School Chorus and their director, Scott Coates. Downtown Arts' performance will begin at 6:30 p.m. with Michael Stec and the Dance Theatre of Wilkes-Barre. From 5 p.m.-8 p.m., art walkers can stop down at Midtown Village to watch the Perfect Harmony Center for the Arts.
