| Mare e Miniere 2016 - Music, Song, And Traditional Folk Dance Seminars After the many concerts held in Carbonia, Iglesias, Ozieri, Villamassargia and Villacidro Mare e Miniere ("Sea and Mines") 2016 comes alive with the Music, Song and Traditional Dances Seminars to be held in Portoscuso (CI) on 27 June - 2 July 2, at the splendid location of "Su Pranu", the ancient "tonnara" (the building in which tuna was worked and packed), "Educate to the value of memory as a lesson for the future" is the main objective we have been pursued for year, in proposing a week program in the charming Sulcis-Iglesiente territory with an ample content of activities dedicated to traditional music. Top artists, actors and researchers involved in study and experimentation will offer the possibility to share a new vision of singing, music and dances usually neglected or negatively perceived. Conversely, traditional music represents the voice of the people; it's the voice of life charged in communicative immediacy, emotions and passions, which becomes crucial in educating to the depth of feelings, empathy and beauty. So, everyone attending, of any age or cultural background, can empathize and identify with. Through lectures, the internships will offer an opportunity to examine the various aspects characterizing the current practice of the instruments, vocal and traditional choral techniques, starting from learning songs and dances related to the repertoire of traditional music. Students will be offered, as well, the opportunity to live an experience of continuous interaction and sharing with teachers and tutors, creating with them a real artist residency aimed at the making of original productions and a final concert, now a key, culminating event highly appreciated in previous years. Beginners are welcomed to seminars to approach the study of the instruments of the Italian musical tradition, as no special musical knowledge is requested. For trained and more experienced musicians Master Class will be provided. In 2016 edition we are honoured to host the French-Italian extraordinary percussionist and singer Carlo Rizzo who will be tutoring the percussions course, which promises to be one of the most numerous of all the school. A crafted musician, and a technological innovator of frame drums, Rizzo will take into a musical journey through the rhythms and sounds of the frame drums he has invented. Also, he will teach the main traditional tambourines. Not to be missed his special manual techniques which involve the use of the fingers and of the different parts of the right hand to develop original polyrhythms. As in the previous edition, the launeddas course will be held by Luigi Lai, a living legend of Sardinian music and traditional depository of the island double flute repertoire. Its presence in the teaching staff is one of the many gems of the Sardinian summer school, for the exemplary dedication to the study and music, as well as for its distinctive stylistic approach to launeddas, learned by great traditional masters, such as Efisio Melis. Another leading exponent of Sardinian traditional music is Totore Chessa, who will be tutoring organetto diatonico (diatonic accordion), helping students to discover the repertoire of island traditional dances. Featuring rare virtuosity, the Irgoli musician has a busy concert and teaching schedule in Italy and abroad, though he never leaves his playing in his hometown, which allows him to keep active his relationship with the living tradition. Tutors of other courses will be Elena Ledda and Simonetta Soro (traditional singing), Pietro Cernuto (flutes and zampogna), Nando Citarella and Nathalie Leclerc (percussions and dances), Alessandro Foresti (choral singing) and Joseph Molinu (Sardinian dances), Simone Bottasso (ensemble music). Last but not least, this year's new feature will be the introduction of the children's workshop called "Una minera di idee" ("A mine of ideas") presented by Agnese Ermacora and Giorgio Maria Condemi. It involves an improvisation lab, creative writing and sound dialogue, aimed at children of the last year of primary school or the first year of the middle school. Also, children with special educational needs can attend the labs. The internships will take place from 10.00 to 13.00 and from 17.00 to 20.00. Alongside the morning educational activities, a rich accompanying cultural program will be held with theatre and dance events, literary readings and meetings, dancing in the squarea, as well as boat trips and hiking. Crossroads of meetings for musicians from all over the Mediterranean, "Mare e Miniere is, in short, a unique cultural laboratory of its kind where the world music becomes a vehicle of profound human and cultural interaction.
